Hi there!
Welcome back! Hope you’ve had a good past couple weeks. Mine have had their ups and downs truthfully, but it’s Saturday and its a three-day weekend so I’m not complaining.
I was inspired to write this post during a short walk in DC. I visited two weeks ago for the third time. My first time was for a conference in undergrad, the second time for Homecoming Weekend at my sister’s school, the illustrious Howard University, which was definitely an experience to remember. This time was because little sis was graduating! Whoop whoop! It’s still sinking in- trying to figure out how she grew up so fast but more than anything i’m so happy for her and extremely proud! She did it all. Rounds and rounds and rounds of applause for sis!!!
The beginning of my week before DC was schedule heavy. We had a few hours before my sister’s ceremony that Friday, so I took a walk. It was initially just to do something a little more mindless and get some fresh air, but what I ended up experiencing was everything I needed and more.
Come along friend!
This quiet part of 7th Street NE was so cute! I was walking through this little alley when I turned around and realized the perfect frame created by the buildings, bordering the house in the distance. I live for moments like this when photographing.
These next few photos are from 8th and 9th Street where they intersect with I Street NE. My favorite part of these homes were the stoops, quaintly furnished with matching chairs and small center tables, decorated with flowers.
This house on K Street NE matched the fit so this photo was happening, lol.
After I told my sister about my walk, on Sunday, after brunch at Takoda, she brought me to 12th PL NW, which is known for its more vibrant colors and for being an ‘instagramable’ place in DC. Walking through felt like a colorful dream!
Some of the homes on the way to 12th PL NW were unique in the ways they were personalized- using a variety of materials and bricks to create interest instead of color. I’m always in Designer mode as you can tell.
The owner of the house below was on his way out when we were taking photos outside. While we were complimenting the choices of color he invited us to sit/stand on the steps to get some better photos.
Can you imagine waking up to this every morning. I can only imagine how gorgeous DC is in the fall. Jesus!
This one below, is one of my favorites.
So this post was to show you a little bit of my experience, a different side of DC, and a friendly reminder to make to time for yourself…to just chill. If you haven’t taken a walk in while, just because, take one today if you can- down your street, a city center near by, a park….You never know what you’ll discover!
I tried to remember some additional details from my trips to help you out if you’re visiting DC!
